LO4.2 - To be able to record cinematic quality footage
In our rushes, we have been successful in matching the generic conventions of other short films we have seen and analysed. The genre of our short film was a RomCom or comedy drama. Our short film matches the generic conventions of other short films by having a desired run length of 5-10 minutes which is similar to the run length of normal short films. Within the storyline we kept a small cast of 3 characters, them being Charlie, Kaley and Emily, this was as most short films have a small cast as there isn't enough time to introduce many key characters into the plot which is the same as other short films as they try to ensure each character gets the needed amount of screen time allocated to them. This is also important for the audience to establish who the protagonist is and allow themselves to be absorbed into the plot otherwise they may become confused and not enjoy it as much as intended.
Most short films have a smaller budget to them as they aren't intended to meet a mass audience on a global scale like most full length films made by companies such as Paramount or Disney. Short films are commonly distributed through less costly methods, due to our short film having little to no budget to work with, we decided to use YouTube to distribute our product as that is free and allows us to distribute our product on a global scale. Moreover since our product is targeted towards a niche audience, distributing out product is best done through Youtube due to how it uses metadata, with the right use of metadata we will be able to target the specific audience and show our film towards them.
We are following some of the generic conventions for the short film due to our short film being a dramatic comedy and following the themes of romance and it is a romance so we are capturing our character fall in love with a girl and then experience the harsh reality of heartbreak.
